It is especially effective in establishing intelligent movement patterns for people depending on what their circumstances require. The method is suitable for all ages and fitness levels.Feldenkrais, as a modality, could be used for helping someone overcome the debilitating effects of a neuro-muscular disorder or an elite Olympic class athlete refining their skills just that bit more. I have worked at both these extremes and the Feldenkrais principles involved remain the same.

Feldenkrais Connected Hamstrings - Audio

Reviewer:
Feldenkrais Connected HamstringsThis Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson is designed to free up your hamstrings. The Feldenkrais approach to something like the hamstrings is different to most. We aren't so much interested in you being able to stretch further, rather we are endeavoring to have you be able to engage the use of your hamstrings in a more integrated and useful manner. This is a typical way of using Feldenkrais Exercises to enable you to be able to reach further as a consequence. With Feldenkrais Connected Hamstrings we look to connect the use of your hamstrings with your lower back and the spiralling nature of the torso. This Feldenkrais lesson engages the torso which really contributes to smooth transitions of power. With the Feldenkrais Method it is important to focus directly on the lower back and the hip joints when loosening up the hamstrings - the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. You will notice your head coming closer to your kness as you easily fold toward them. The flowing movements of the torso along with precision movements through the pelvis, both typical qualities of Feldenkrais, are direct contributors to enhanced balance and coordination. You will enjoy this Feldenkrais Connected Hamstrings lesson as you develop a greater sense of fluid movement with better flexibility.

Feldenkrais Integrated Head - Audio

Reviewer:
Feldenkrais Integrated HeadThis is an interesting Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson exploring and connecting the various components within your head. It is amazing how much we can use Feldenkrais exercises to free up this area. If you have every ground your teeth or tightened your jaw too much under stress than this is the one for you. Actually around the head / neck / jaw area is where many people physically manifest and maintain stress. The Feldenkrais approach makes it much easier to keep these physical symptoms at bay. Then it becomes much easier to control the emotional and psychological components as well.As an aside, you may begin to notice that the best sports people tend to be loose and free here. As they tire and lose capacity this part of their anatomy tightens up considerably. A useful question is what happens first. In my Feldenkrais Practice as I work with these people this is one of the first things I teach them to control. It is essential.

Feldenkrais Musicians Touch - Audio

Reviewer:
Feldenkrais Musicians TouchThis Feldenkrais Method lesson is designed to develop dexterity with your hands and fingers. While this is of obvious advantage to musicians it is also very good for anyone who uses a computer keyboard. Again, sports people will find this contributes to their timing and skill to the extent that they rely on good hand coordination. This Feldenkrais Method exercise really illustrates the relationship between movement and the brain. In the Feldenkrais Method we use very easy, gentle processes to develop awareness with this part of the body.A nice side benefit to this Feldenkrais Method exercise is that you can do elements of it anywhere. Professional sports people who have worked with me use elements of this one during the game to keep themselves focused and their touch sensitive and accurate. It is very effective.

Feldenkrais Panther Tread - Audio
25/Apr/2007
Reviewer:
Feldenkrais Panther TreadThis Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson is designed to assist with mobilizing your feet and developing more sensitivity with footwork and movement. Remember, Moshe Feldenkrais was one of the first Judo exponents in the West. This is one of the Feldenkrais exercises that would be very good for anyone who relies on fast moving and agility - dancers, sports people, martial artists etc. It is a Feldenkrais lesson that is also of value to everyone else as a lot of the physical tensions that people experience begin with the way they walk and stand. It all starts with the contact of the feet with the ground. I have found, since I become a Feldenkrais Practitioner, that most people are totally unaware of how they make contact with the ground - none more so than me before I began the Feldenkrais Training. In our trainings I can usually identify people by how heavy they are making contact with the floor. Everything from thumping to the floor actually shaking - no matter the size of the person. It is like your own personal signature. Interestingly, a heavier tread is often a sign the person is under stress. This is why the Feldenkrais Method can so often be of value to a person under physical and emotional stress. For your information, another function that can reveal how well organised and aware a person is, from a Feldenkrais perspective, is how they sit in a chair. You are more likely to see the Kamikaze crash landing method than the 'arrive as light as a feather version'. In Feldenkrais we often talk about the concept of 'reversible movement'. Can you stop at any point and easily and effortlessly return or reverse the movement. This should be so with both walking and sitting (again from a Feldenkrais perspective).

Feldenkrais Passenger Head - Audio
25/Apr/2007
Reviewer:
Feldenkrais Passenger HeadWe spend time in this Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson learning to move your head via your torso and pelvis. This reflects a nice strategy within the Feldenkrais Method, the concept of proximal and distal. Normally we move the extremities in isolation to the rest of the body. To apply these principles in the head - neck region is very beneficial.I believe that if there is a universal principle with movement it is that good movement involves the whole body. Even the slightest. This then requires very subtle connections and a high degree of awareness. One of the ways we develop these connections, while at the same time release any undue tension, is by initiating movement in a controlled manner proximally - or from the centre out. This exercise is very good for releasing neck tension.Hence the term: Feldenkrais Passenger Head. You will literally take your head on a ride to greater ease, comfort and alertness.

Feldenkrais Pivotal Hamstrings - Audio
25/Apr/2007
Reviewer:
Feldenkrais Pivotal HamstringsThis Feldenkrais Method lesson explores the relationship of the midsection and pelvis to the hamstrings in movement. In fact, contrary to most Feldenkrais Method lessons, a fair amount of this lesson is done in a standing position. Using the Feldenkrais Method we are more interested in developing the most intelligent integration of function with your hamstrings and the pelvis.Too often attention is put merely on stretching these 'lumps of meat' without consideration of correct skeletal alignment. Then people wonder why injuries occur and joints get damaged.Regardless of how flexible or inflexible you are, this is one of the Feldenkrais Method Exercises to revisit from time to time. Keep the attention and intention on awareness with your pelvic alignment rather than just extending your range of movement. Typically, with the Feldenkrais Method, that happens naturally anyway.

Feldenkrais Rubber Arms - Audio
25/Apr/2007
Reviewer:
Feldenkrais Rubber ArmsThis Feldenkrais Methodt lesson will assist in freeing up your arms wrists and shoulders. Most people focus too much on the hands and lose the connection back through the body. This exercise from theFeldenkrais Method, and the one following, go a long way in reconnecting these parts. Have you ever noticed that naturally gifted artists, musicians and sports people are often loose through the body. Most people barely move in an integrated way after childhood. Interesting that Moshe Feldenkrais began his development of the Feldenkrais Method by modelling young children and babies with their movement and learning patterns.Too much use of the hands or arms only is one of the contributors to RSI. The idea, with the Feldenkrais Method, is to share the load through the entire body. There is a concept in the Internal Chinese Martial Arts that as one part of the body moves the whole body moves. The Feldenkrais Method is similar in intention, in fact many Feldenkrais Practitioners find an affinity with the Martial Arts this way. This is why the handson version of the Feldenkrais Method is termed Functional Integration. It is impossible to move as an 'integrated whole' without a functional connection through the arms and shoulders. Of course, this must also continue to be connected through the spine, torso, pelvis, hips - all the way to the contact with the ground. This involves other Feldenkrais Method exercises as well.Move from your center and develop sensitivity and finesse. Using the Feldenkrais Method can help get you there.Begin to reclaim your youth with this Feldenkrais lesson - here and now.

Feldenkrais Soft Hamstrings - Audio

Reviewer:
Feldenkrais Soft HamstringsThis Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson, as its title suggests can help you easily and gently soften and lengthen your hamstrings. Feldenkrais exercises can allow you to develop a sense of rhythm and connection throughout the body. You will use very gentle undulating movements designed to lengthen all parts of the body associated with hamstring function. With this Feldenkrais exercise you will begin to lossen up the ribs and lower spine. This is essential for good integrated function. This lesson addresses principles of learning, relevant to the Feldenkrais Method, that can be quite challenging to different approaches more aligned to working through effort and tension. As is often the case we are using Feldenkrais here with the bigger picture in mind - not just freeing up one muscle group.

Feldenkrais Super Rubber ArmsMore variations on the Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lesson 'Rubber Arms' theme. We often do this in the Feldenkrais Method. In fact Moshe Feldenkrais had a definition of intelligence that referred more to the flexibility and the number of ways that a person knew how to do something rather than the amount of information they knew. He had a very high regard for flexibility in life situations and the capacity to adapt. As such, welcome to the Feldenkrais principle of variation within themes and explore your capacity as a contortionist - effortlessly.

Natural Pain Relief - Audio
30/Apr/2007
Reviewer:
It is my belief that pain is a response to a certain stimulus – internal or external. Habitual pain is just that – a habit. I believe it is possible to train your nervous system to respond differently to the stimulus. In fact, respond differently away from the direction of pain toward comfort and ease. There are certain conditions that maintain pain and the most significant of these is physical tension. It is possible to release this tension in key parts of the body, along with a well directed mind and thereby release the sensations of pain. These are processes that can be developed through time and as such are skills that you can continue to improve with. The core methodologies drawn upon are NLP and Feldenkrais. These lessons are deliberately kept to around 20 to 25 minutes to reduce any fatigue or effort factor for someone facing the debilitating circumstances of pain. They are not meant to be considered cures or treatments but merely ways of dealing with the symptoms of pain.
